Callum Ilott hoping to get another Formula One chance after his race weekend debut at the Eifel Grand Prix is rained off

Callum Ilott was pleased to get a taste of the Formula One action despite seeing his race weekend debut rained off.

The 21-year-old member of the Ferrari Driver Academy was due to run in the first practice session for the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in Germany for the Haas team.

But the former Bishop's Stortford College student, who is second in the F2 standings, said he would still learn from the experience.

"Obviously it wasn't the most ideal session from everyone's point of view. Nevertheless, it's been a great experience to come here and prepare as a driver would in F1," said Ilott. "From that side I've learned a lot and it certainly hasn't been a wasted opportunity.

"Hopefully I can get another opportunity before the end of the year, but if this is the only one then it's been an experience.

"I have to take away from it all the positive. Even with what's happened, I'll be better prepared for another opportunity."

Ilott must wait to see if he gets another chance to run in an F1 practice before the end of the season, with the Abu Dhabi in December a possibility.
