Bishop’s Stortford ladies’ first team win one and lose one against Colchester & East Essex in EWLP Hundred
Bishop’s Stortford’s ladies’ first team bounced back from a defeat to beat Colchester & East Essex in an EWLP Hundred double-header.
They stuttered to 100-6 from their 100 balls in the opening contest and then underperformed with the ball, allowing their opponents to win with six balls to spare.
Danni Eckley was the only player to show any form with an unbeaten 34 followed by figures of 1-11.
Stortford chose to bat in the second game and captain Matilda Price struck a brilliant 113no off 62 deliveries to guide her side to a commanding 151-3.
Their bowling also improved significantly and Colchester fell 48 runs short on 103-4.
The under-15 girls lost by four wickets against High Roding in the national cup.
Mattie Hughes made an excellent 59no and Grace Gladen took 3-26, but O Andrews’ 112no off 45 balls made the difference for their opponents.
Skipper Libby Hughes hit the winning runs with a maximum as the under-13 girls completed a powerful win over Harpenden.
Stortford only lost three wickets in the run chase after Nyan Callan had taken 2-3 in their rivals’ 51 off 20 overs.
The under-11 girls have been catapulted to the top of the Herts league after beating St Margaretsbury and Berkhamsted.
The 74-run success over the former was largely thanks to excellent bowling from Amelie Bennett (2-7) and Esme Maxwell (2-11) and a thumping 15 runs from Freya Hill.
Maxwell (24), Hill (23) and Bennett (17) set them on their way against Berkhamsted before Bennett, Grace Diemaker and Martha Gibson took wickets.
There was also a 36-run success for the under-11B girls against Sawbridgeworth, with everyone contributing with the bat before Evie Butterworth (3-8) and Lucy Ballaram (2-10) did the damage with the ball for the new league leaders.
