Sam Winter named Bishop's Stortford RFC first-team captain for fourth season running with Tom Banks and Declan Caulfield taking on vice-captain roles
Sam Winter will be Bishop's Stortford's first-team captain for a fourth season in a row – and the club's centenary campaign – after being thrown the armband again.
The centre, who has skippered the side throughout their National League 1 adventure following promotion in 2017, will be assisted by new vice-captains Declan Caulfield and Tom Banks.
All three players have come through the youth ranks at the Silver Leys club, as has new Blues captain Jamie Campbell. He will be supported by deputies Ross Bird and Reece Lane, who arrived at Stortford in 2013 and 2018 respectively.
"Sam will be into his fourth term as captain now. "He's experienced, a good leader and always one of our best performers," said joint head coach Marcus Cattell.
"He leads with his actions and also with his talking. He's been through the club and it's part of him.
"Jamie's been part of the squad for a long time and now we're making it official that he'll be captain for the Blues when he's playing.
"We lost some big leaders a couple of years ago – people like Mark McCraith, Steve Ball, Matt Tomlinson, Sean Edwards – and we're starting to see the new leaders come through.
"Lads like Tom and Declan have been part of things for a long time and are developing their leadership skills."
