Bishop’s Stortford Women beat Braintree 51-5 in Women’s NC 3 Midlands (East)
Kiera Chadburn and Kim Welsh both bagged braces as Bishop’s Stortford Women registered a resounding 51-5 victory over Braintree in their opening match of the season.
The hosts, with new coach Kyle McDonald at the helm, brushed aside their opponents, who had a bigger pack, in the Women’s NC 3 Midlands (East) contest.
Stortford captain and scrum-half Jasmin Bice claimed the game’s opening try before Chadburn opened her account.
The latter struck again following a glorious kick from Amy Vernon - who kicked two conversions in the game - as the hosts went into the break leading 17-5.
Powerhouse Welsh went over the whitewash and debutante Becks O’Mahoney rounded off some fine team play as Stortford pulled further clear.
Elise Sauvary got the hosts’ sixth try after tight pod work from the forwards and quick feet from the backs before Welsh got another five-pointer.
Harriet Creasy proved too fast for the visitors’ tiring defence as she scored a try and, with the clock ticking down, Georgia Butler also dotted down on her second appearance for the club. Donna McDonald added the extras.
Sarah Harvey was named forward of the match while Creasy was back of the match.
