East Herts come second behind St Albans at Hertfordshire Schools Swimming Association Secondary Inter-District Championships




The East Herts team secured runners-up spot at the Hertfordshire Schools Swimming Association Secondary Inter-District Championships.

They came second behind St Albans and ahead of Watford, North Herts, Mid Herts and Dacorum.

The squad included members of Bishop’s Stortford, Ware and Hoddesdon swimming clubs as well as students from The Bishop’s Stortford High School, Herts and Essex High School, Bishop’s Stortford College, St Mary’s Catholic School and Avanti Grange as well as Leventhorpe School in Sawbridgeworth.

The intermediate (Years 9-10) and senior girls (Years 11-13) topped their age group categories with an impressive 10 top-three finishes and three relay golds.

The junior (Years 7-8) and senior boys finished second behind champions St Albans.

New championship records were set by Zak Fellows in the intermediate 50m backstroke with 27.84sec (breaking 28.09) and the senior girls’ freestyle relay team with 1min 54.90sec (breaking 1.55.20).

The East Herts district representative was Stortford’s head coach Jamie McLaughlin and he liaised closely with schools to put together the best team on the night.
