Bishop’s Stortford thrashed 6-1 by Felixstowe & Walton United in FA Trophy first round

Olu Oluwatimilehin was sent off as Bishop’s Stortford were dumped out of the Isuzu FA Trophy with a 6-1 home defeat to lower-level Felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday (October 26).

He was dismissed five minutes before the break after picking up two yellow cards in the first-round tie as the Blues suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

Steve Castle’s side, who will be aiming to bounce back when they visit AFC Telford United in Southern League, Premier Central this Saturday (November 2), have now had a man sent off in five matches this term.

The Seasiders, who ply their trade one step below in the Pitching In Isthmian League, North Division, scored three goals in each half as they recorded one of the biggest wins in their history.

The hosts had some early chances as Cole Dasilva forced Harry Wright into a save and Mark Haines headed wide from the resulting corner.

But it was the visitors who took a 10th-minute lead when Stortford’s on-loan goalkeeper Roraigh Browne parried Oliver Calley-Brown’s cutback and Cameron Forde-Brown pounced to net.

The Blues had opportunities to equalise as Brad Russell saw a shot from a tight angle flash past the post and Ryan Charles volleyed over the bar.

However, Oluwatimilehin was given his marching orders after 40 minutes and the Seasiders notched twice to take control before half time.

Charlie Castle deflected a right-wing cross into his own net before Joshua Mayhew fired home after Mark Haines failed to clear.

Mayhew completed his brace seven minutes after the interval as he found the net from a right-wing cutback with Browne out of position.

Stortford reduced the arrears with half an hour remaining when Scott was played in by Charles and he scored from a tight angle.

But the away team quickly restored their four-goal cushion as Charlie Warren found the bottom corner with a 20-yard strike.

And, after a succession of corners, Thomas Warren completed the rout with a free header at the back post.
