Team GB showjumper Ben Maher finishes ninth in individual jumping final at Paris Olympics
Ben Maher finished ninth in the individual jumping final at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday morning (August 6).
The Elsenham-based showjumper finished outside the medals having helped Great Britain bag team gold at Chateau de Versailles on Friday (August 2).
Maher, 41, who has three Olympic equestrian gold medals in his collection, went into the individual event as defending champion having triumphed at Tokyo 2020.
He qualified for the final in 28th place on board Dallas Vegas Batilly having gone under the time limit of 84 seconds with one fence down.
In Tuesday’s final, Maher knocked down the sixth fence on a challenging course, going round well under the time in 81.70sec.
It was not enough for him to challenge for the podium, however, while Team GB colleague Scott Brash, on board Jefferson, finished three places higher in sixth.
Germany’s Christian Kukuk took the gold medal after triumphing in a three-way jump off. Switzerland's Steve Guerdat won silver while bronze went to Maikel van der Vleuten of the Netherlands.
