Luke Dunham won a bronze medal at the South of England Cross Country Championships.

The Bishop’s Stortford High School student came third in the under-17 men’s race at Beckenham Place Park in Lewisham, south-east London.

The teenager, who represents Ware-based Herts Phoenix Athletics Club, crossed the line in 19min 8sec, four seconds behind runner-up Michael Clark. Race winner Alex Lennon clocked 18.44.

Dunham was relatively happy with the result as it came off the back of a hard training week and a 3,000m personal best (8.30) at a British Milers Club event in Sheffield the previous weekend, which was his first indoor race.

Former Herts and Essex pupil Grace Mason, who lives in Stortford when home from university and also competes for Herts Phoenix, came 43rd in the under-20 women’s race in 26.39.
