George Durkan made history by becoming the first player to win both the Under-18 and Under-16 Hertfordshire County Championships in the same year.

The Bishop's Stortford Golf Club member secured a birdie on the last hole to win the under-16 title with a level-par round of 70 at Redbourn Golf Club.

It had looked as though a play-off may be needed as Durkan's clubmate and fellow Leventhorpe School student George Wright was also level par playing his final hole.

Unfortunately for Wright, he bogeyed the hole and slipped into a three-way tie for second place.

To complete an excellent day for BSGC, Oliver Brunt came sixth and 11-year-old Ben Sessions was 12th.

Meanwhile, Wright pipped Durkan to top spot when the friends battled it out for the Junior Turkey Trot crown back at the Dunmow Road club.

They both returned gross 69s, but Wright managed one more stableford point to win 40-39. Max Hopkins and Ben Cowper were next with 35.

In the latest rounds of the Summer Order of Merit, there were victories for Jason Kidd, with 43 points to win by eight, and Will Baxter.
