Former Bishop’s Stortford High School student Oscar Wilson scores two tries for Saracens in Premiership Rugby Cup win over London Scottish
Oscar Wilson continued his development by scoring two tries for Saracens in their 20-0 victory at London Scottish in the Premiership Rugby Cup.
The former Bishop’s Stortford High School student, 19, made a big impact off the bench to help his side triumph last Friday night (February 7).
Wilson, who played for Bishop’s Stortford from the age of six and whose dad Alex represented the Silver Leys club for over 40 years, dotted down in the 39th and 66th minutes at a muddy Richmond Athletic Ground.
The teenager entered the fray after 25 minutes as a replacement for former England full-back Alex Goode, who had a cameo appearance after three months out injured.
“Getting to play out here is always great and to score two tries as well is an excellent bonus,” said Wilson, who was told a week beforehand that he was likely to be included in the matchday squad.
“I sort of knew, but to actually get told I was on the bench I was over-the-moon excited. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity.
“I think the effort we put on our five-metre line protecting it and everything we did to back up meant we earned that result. We were the better team.”
Wilson became the youngest player to represent Saracens for 12 years at the age of 17 years and four months when he made his debut - and scored a try - in a Premiership Rugby Cup contest against Northampton Saints in October 2022.
Meanwhile, fellow former Stortford youngster Henry Walker has featured in both of Ireland’s opening games in this season’s Under-20s Six Nations.
The hooker, who was part of the brilliant Stortford colts squad in 2022 which won two league titles and lifted one county cup trophy, started the 19-3 defeat to England on January 30 before bouncing back with a 33-15 success over Scotland on February 8.
