Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club members Alyson Fordham and Lizzie Bellinger win medals at European Aquatics Masters Championships in Serbia




Alyson Fordham and Lizzie Bellinger claimed seven medals between them as they stormed the European Aquatics Masters Championships in Belgrade.

Representing Team GB at the event in the Serbian capital, the Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club members also set a host of new records.

Fordham, competing in the 65-69 age group, took home two gold medals and a silver while Bellinger, in the 45-49 section, claimed three silver and a bronze.

Fordham, who is the European record holder in the 50m and 100m freestyle, kicked off her campaign with a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke.

She then bagged gold in both the 50m and 100m freestyle with championship-record times of 30.90sec and 1min 10.53sec respectively.

Bellinger, who is the current Aquatics GB record holder in the 100m butterfly, came second in both the 50m and 100m butterfly.

She was also second and third in the 200m and 400m individual medley thanks to East Region records of 2.41.31 and 5.59.63 respectively.
