Television viewers will get to cheer on former Bishop's Stortford schoolboy Adam Bishop in World's Strongest Man when his heat is screened on Channel 5 on Thursday (December 30).

The episode, which airs at 8pm, will see the ex-Bishop's Stortford High School student compete against five rivals in a bid to reach the Grand Final, which will be shown on the same channel on New Year's Day (Saturday January 1) at 7pm.

Bishop came second in this year's Britain's Strongest Man, which fans got to watch on Boxing Day, behind Tom Stoltman.

On the world stage, the 32-year-old, who was born at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and grew up in Sawbridgeworth, lines up alongside countryman Terry Hollands as well as Georgia's Konstantine Janashia, Jerry Pritchett from the USA and South Africa's Chris van der Linde in heat four.

Bishop, who came sixth in World's Strongest Man in 2020, needs to come first to qualify for the Grand Final automatically while the second- and third-placed athletes will take part in a stone-off to see who gets the other qualification spot.

Bishop, who also attended Fawbert & Barnard Infants' School and Reedings Junior School in Sawbridgeworth, played youth rugby for Harlow and Bishop's Stortford before joining Saracens' full-time academy.

After studying sports science and geography at Loughborough University, he took on a voluntary unpaid role as a strength and conditioning coach at Harlequins. The position became full-time the following season and he began running the rehabilitation side of things before going on to become a senior strength coach.
