Adam Bishop comes eighth as Tom Stoltman crowned World's Strongest Man 2021 in Sacramento, California
Adam Bishop finished eighth in the Grand Final as his fellow countryman Tom Stoltman was crowned World's Strongest Man 2021.
Bishop, who grew up in Sawbridgeworth and went to Bishop's Stortford High School, qualified for the final in Sacramento, California, via a stone-off after coming second in his heat.
And television viewers got to see the 32-year-old doing his thing with the best of the action being screened on Channel 5 over the Christmas and New Year period.
Bishop was in the final alongside the Stoltman brothers Tom and Luke as well as Brian Shaw, Trey Mitchell and Bobby Thompson from the USA, Canada's JF Caron and Maxime Boudreault, Georgia's Konstantine Janashia - who won Bishop's heat - and Eythor Ingolfsson Melsted from Iceland.
Bishop, who came second in 2021's Britain's Strongest Man, began by coming sixth in the Giant's Medley before finishing seventh in the Titan's Turntable.
He tied for fifth with three of his rivals in the REIGN Keg Toss and then came 10th in the Max Log Lift.
Bishop's best result came in the penultimate event, the KNAACK Deadlift, as he completed 10 repetitions to share first place with Mitchell and Caron.
And Bishop, who came sixth in World's Strongest Man in 2020, completed his competition with a seventh-place finish in the Atlas Stones as he finished eighth overall with 27 points.
Champion Tom Stoltman had 45.5 points to his name as he ended three clear of runner-up Shaw. Third place went to Boudreault with 36.5 points.
Bishop, who also attended Fawbert & Barnard Infants' School and Reedings Junior School in Sawbridgeworth, played youth rugby for Harlow and Bishop's Stortford before joining Saracens' full-time academy.
After studying sports science and geography at Loughborough University, he took on a voluntary unpaid role as a strength and conditioning coach at Harlequins. The position became full time the following season and he began running the rehabilitation side of things before going on to become a senior strength coach.
