Bishop’s Stortford considering move for former Reading striker Nahum Melvin-Lambert

Steve Castle is running the rule over striker Nahum Melvin-Lambert as Bishop’s Stortford prepare for a busy festive and new year period.

Blues manager Castle is keen to increase his options at the top end of the pitch as they aim to end a three-game losing run in the Pitching In Southern League, Premier Central.

Melvin-Lambert is a former Reading forward who knows midfielder Rashawn Scott from their time together at the Royals.

He came off the bench with 10 minutes remaining of the weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Leiston.

The Blues, who sit 16th, visit mid-table AFC Sudbury on Boxing Day (1pm) before back-to-back home games against eighth-placed Redditch United and seventh-placed Bedford Town on Saturday (December 28) and New Year’s Day respectively (both 3pm).

They led against Leiston with 13 minutes remaining before two late goals condemned them to defeat at the RDA Stadium.

“I keep saying it - we’re a young group that has to learn from these experiences,” said boss Castle, whose side are one point above the relegation zone.

“We got ourselves in front and managed to not win the game. It’s all about trying to keep our shape for as long as we possibly can.

“It’s a cruel game at times, but we’ve competed in all of the last three games and we’ll be fine. But we’ve got to learn from our mistakes sooner rather than later.”
