Bishop's Stortford Golf Club member and England player Jackie Foster wins Hertfordshire Ladies’ Seniors Championship for the third year in a row

Jackie Foster won the Hertfordshire Ladies’ Seniors Championship for the third year in a row with a fine round at Harpenden Golf Club.

The Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club member, who plays off scratch, followed up her victory in last month’s Ladies’ County Championship with another success thanks to a score of gross 77 (+5).

Foster, who has played for England seniors, comfortably retained the title, which she has bagged four times in total, by five shots from Harpenden Common’s Karen Ellam.

Her hat-trick was completed following wins at West Herts and Verulam in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

There were 42 golfers aged 50 and over in action last Tuesday (October 6) on a predominantly dry day following the previous weekend’s washout.

The greens and fairways were firm and played well, but inevitably many of the bunkers were sodden, to the point where many of them were taken out of play and were played as GUR (green under repair) in the essence of fairness.

The course, however, played very long with all the distance achieved through carry with very limited roll out.
