Darren Foxley misses a penalty for Bishop’s Stortford as they lose 3-0 at champions-elect Tamworth in National League North
Darren Foxley missed a penalty for Bishop’s Stortford as they suffered an 18th consecutive Vanarama National League North defeat when they lost 3-0 at champions-elect Tamworth on Good Friday (March 29).
The relegated Blues are back in action this afternoon (Easter Monday) when they entertain third-from-bottom Banbury United in their penultimate home game of the season.
Stortford manager Steve Smith handed a full debut to Codey Cosgrave after the midfielder joined from Grays Athletic while forward Kennedy Mupomba, who has been recruited on loan from Colchester United, came on as a 79th-minute substitute.
The Blues also announced before kick-off that academy midfielders Archie Sherrin and Ollie Collier have signed first-team forms.
The Lambs had a number of early chances, including a header against the bar and two close-range shots that were blocked on the line.
Stortford had the opportunity to break the deadlock when Cosgrave was fouled by goalkeeper Jas Singh in the box, but Foxley saw his penalty saved by the shot-stopper.
Before the break, Blues goalkeeper and captain Jack Giddens did well to keep out Ben Milnes’ free kick.
Giddens made two other good stops after the restart to thwart Milnes, but he was beaten in the 52nd minute when Chris Wreh found the bottom corner.
The Lambs extended their lead in the 70th minute when Nathan Tshikuna dribbled past Harry Beadle and Giddens before slotting the ball into an empty net.
And, with two minutes remaining, Kyle Finn pounced on a deflection off Sam Robbins to find the net.
