Stansted to entertain Takeley in local derby in the Emirates FA Cup extra preliminary round

A local derby will help get competitive football below the elite level back up and running with a bang after Stansted were given a home tie with Takeley in the Emirates FA Cup, extra preliminary round.

With teams at this level having been out of action since March, the FA Cup provides a mouthwatering way for them to resume.

And Essex Senior League rivals Stansted and Takeley will do battle on Tuesday September 1, with the winners to receive a £1,125 windfall while the losers will net £375.

With no replays in the competition this season, the match would go straight to penalties if it ended all square after 90 minutes.

And supporters could also potentially get to enjoy the match following today's announcement by the FA on the phased return of spectators to clubs at steps three to six of the National League System.

Whoever emerges victorious between Stansted and Takeley would be at home to Basildon United in the preliminary round, with that tie scheduled for Saturday September 12.

Sawbridgeworth Town are also in the extra preliminary round and have been drawn at home to Romford, with the winners then hosting either Baldock Town or St Margaretsbury.

Takeley and Sawbridgeworth are also in the Buildbase FA Vase and have been handed away games against Hashtag United and Sporting Bengal United respectively in the first qualifying round. Those ties are scheduled for Saturday September 19.

If Takeley progress they will host either Athletic Newham or Wormley Rovers in the second qualifying round on Saturday October 10 while Sawbridgeworth would travel to either Barkingside or Coggeshall Athletic.
