Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club members perform well at Swim England National Summer Meet




Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club’s Ella Greatbatch bagged two medals at the Swim England National Summer Meet.

She claimed gold in the 16-years 50m breaststroke with a time of 33.89sec and broke her own club record by clocking 1min 14.71sec to take silver in the 100m breaststroke.

Among the other eight Stortford athletes in action was Brandon MacDonald-Williams, who knocked a huge 10 seconds off his personal best for 17.30.05 to come ninth in the 16-years 1,500m freestyle.

He also shaved four seconds off his 800m freestyle record (9.06.33) to finish 15th in his age group.

Molly Greatbatch, who was the club’s youngest competitor at the age of 14, performed superbly at her first national-level event. She was 14th in the 14/15-years 200m breaststroke - the fifth-fastest 14-year-old - and 29th in the 100m breaststroke.

Dylan Davenport (15-years) was seventh in the 50m butterfly final and 22nd in the 100m butterfly.

Emma Fields (18/over) came 10th in the 50m butterfly and 17th in the 100m butterfly while, in the same age category, Lucy Wheeler took sixth in the 100m freestyle.

Laura Burgess (18/Over) was 11th in the 50m freestyle, Jakey Hayes (17-years) came 18th in the 200m backstroke and Lauren Gore (18/Over) finished 29th in the 50m breaststroke.
