Bishop's Stortford beaten by Greene King IPA Championship heavyweights Ealing Trailfinders in pre-season friendly
Nick Hankin and Tom Lewis scored tries for Bishop's Stortford as they lost their second pre-season contest 73-14 at Ealing Trailfinders.
Hankin dotted down in the first period and Lewis went over the whitewash after the break, with Brad Burr adding the extras on each occasion.
The hosts, who finished runners-up in the Greene King IPA Championship behind London Irish last term, ran in 11 tries in the friendly.
Next up for Stortford is a home meeting with Hertford at Silver Leys tomorrow night (Thursday, August 29, 8pm) before their National League 1 campaign begins at Plymouth Albion on Saturday, September 7.
Two scores from Reon Joseph and one apiece from Peter Lydon, Seb Stegmann and Harry Sloan, four of which were converted by Steven Shingler, put Ealing 33-0 ahead after 36 minutes.
Stortford got a deserved converted try in the final play of the half as Hankin latched on to a grubber kick before going over.
Ealing captain David Johnston drove over from close range early in the second period, before Ben West scored with his first touch and Stegmann's second try of the day brought up their half-century of points.
A huge hit in defence from Craig Willis resulted in Jordan Burns racing clear for the next Ealing try, before Lewis crashed over from close range for Stortford's second converted try.
Johnston's first match as Trailfinders skipper got better when he claimed his second score 10 minutes from the end, and there was still time for Andrew Durutalo to round off some good work by Pat Howard.
