Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club members Jon Hopkins and Rebecca Earl helped their American college teams triumph in the latest round of Inter-Collegiate competition.

Hopkins featured for Florida Gulf Coast University at Florida’s Coral Creek Golf Club while Earl represented Wofford College in San Antonio, Texas.

Hopkins shot rounds of 68 and 69 to sit second overnight, before a final par round of 71 saw him slip one place to finish tied for third just three shots behind the winner.

He carded 11 birdies and an eagle during the 54-hole competition, which his five-man team won comfortably to record their first team success of the season.

Earl also tied for third place three shots behind the victor some 1,400 miles away as her side claimed their second win of the season by a single shot.

After recording back-to-back 74s to sit just inside the top 10, she got four birdies in a final round of 70 for a four-over-par total.

Meanwhile, fellow Stortford member and first-year student George Durkan did well in his third outing for Lincoln Memorial College.

He produced solid rounds of 72, 74 and 73 on the par-72 course in Albany, Georgia to come 23rd on the back of an eight-place finish two weeks ago.

Hopkins, Earl and Durkan are building up to the end-of-season conference finals before returning home in April and May.
