Bishop's Stortford beat Cambridge City II to go top of the East Women's Hockey League, Premier Division
Hettie Meadows had a dream debut as she scored Bishop's Stortford's winner against Cambridge City II with her first touch as they went top of the East Women's League, Premier Division.
Her goal secured a 2-1 home success as they overturned a half-time deficit at the Herts and Essex Sports Centre.
The hosts, who produced a gritty performance, equalised in the 50th minute when Millie Andrews finished off some nice play involving Molly Brooks, Abi Barrett and Sally Powell.
Andrews then turned provider as her cross was converted by debutante Meadows in the game's decisive moment.
Katie Robinson, who was tenacity personified in the heart of Stortford's midfield, was named player of the match.
"That was winning the hard way, but, with our newcomers bedding in nicely and without one or two of our regulars today, we are looking good value for our position as a table-topping side," said first-team manager Mark Surridge.
The team are at home again this Saturday (Oct 9, 4.30pm) against Sudbury at the Herts and Essex Sports Centre, with spectators welcome.
