Emma Hynds and Nicky Bareham score to earn Bishop’s Stortford II 2-0 home victory over Crostyx in East Women’s Hockey League




Emma Hynds and Nicky Bareham scored to earn Bishop’s Stortford II a 2-0 home victory over Crostyx in East Women’s Hockey League, Division 1S on Saturday (February 22).

The hosts broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time as Hynds deflected in a short corner.

Bareham doubled the lead midway through the second period with a fantastic shot across goal which was turned in by a defender.

Lori McLeish was named player of the match for helping to preserve a clean sheet.

The first team have been knocked off top spot in the Premier Division after losing 2-1 at Ipswich.

The visitors conceded inside the opening two minutes and fell further behind after the interval.

Lexie Guthrie pulled a goal back from a short corner as Stortford made a spell of sustained pressure pay, but they were denied an equaliser by some brilliant saves.

Stortford have dropped to second place and are one point behind new leaders Harleston Magpies II with five games remaining.

Captain Jemma Pettit got the only goal as the third team beat their Bedford counterparts 1-0 at home in 2SW.

Lois Wright’s goal was a consolation for the fourth team as they lost 2-1 at Stevenage II in 3SW.

There was better news for the fifth team in the same division as Hannah Wynne’s brace guided them to a 4-0 home victory over Royston.

Emily Wood and Lianne Warnell were also on target as the hosts dominated the game from the outset.

The sixth team were 3-0 winners at Waltham Forest II thanks to strikes from Karen Leach, Jemima Tasker and Sarah Alderson.

Emma Cox got all the goals as the seventh team registered a 5-1 success at Stevenage IV in 5SW. Libby Hodges was player of the match.

The eighth team drew 2-2 at home to 6SW leaders Letchworth IV as Mia Beverly and Vivienne Saunders netted while goalkeeper Elsie Lowe made several outstanding saves.

Harkierat Gill and Yvonne Monk were among the scorers when the ninth team triumphed 4-0 at Chiltern II in 7SW while, in the same division, the 10th team (development) lost 4-1 at Luton Town II.

In the East Men’s League, Jamie Brooks scored for the first team in their 3-1 Premier Division home defeat to Blueharts.

The second team suffered a 10-0 loss away to Luton Town in Division 2SW while, in the same division, the third team triumphed 3-2 at home to St Albans IV.

The fourth team lost 5-1 at Luton Town II and James Nash upped his goal tally for the season to 30 with a hat-trick in the fifth team’s 8-1 drubbing of Stevenage III in 5SW.

And the sixth team were beaten 5-1 by their Bedford counterparts in 6SW.
