Bishop's Stortford Rugby Club sign Coventry target Tom Lewis from Peterborough Lions
Bishop's Stortford have fought off competition from Greene King IPA Championship side Coventry to land Tom Lewis.
The 25-year-old forward, who can play in the second row or back row, has arrived at Silver Leys from Peterborough Lions.
Tree surgeon Lewis, who has captained East Midlands, was flattered by the interest from Coventry, but felt a move to Stortford to work under director of rugby Andy Long was perfect for him.
"This will be the first time I've played in National League 1," said Lewis, who is sponsored by Hilton Coachworks. "I've played in National League 2, but this will be a new challenge.
"When I spoke to Andy, I told him that they [Coventry] were interested in getting me over there for pre-season. After speaking to Andy and other people, and hearing about Bishop's Stortford, I decided this was the club for me.
"It was quite a hard decision with them being a Championship club, but I hadn't really spoken to them too much about it and I was more than happy to get the signature on the paper."
Lewis is now gearing up for the start of pre-season with his new team-mates and the opening league game of the campaign at Plymouth Albion on Saturday, September 7.
"I can't wait to play that first game and see how the team performs," added Lewis.
