Bishop’s Stortford High School student Ben Sessions becomes first boy to win Hertfordshire Under-16 Golf Championship twice

Ben Sessions shot a one-under-par 68 to become the first boy to win the Hertfordshire Under-16 Championship crown twice.

The Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club member, who was recently capped by England under-16s for the first time, retained his title at Mid Herts Golf Club in St Albans.

Sessions lacked his usual consistency in the one-round event, highlighted by a stretch of six holes on the back nine that contained four birdies and two bogeys.

But the Bishop’s Stortford High School student did enough to finish two shots clear of Ronnie Seagroatt and River Gardiner of Hanbury Manor and Porters Park respectively.

There was more good news for the Dunmow Road club as Lilly Newton and Harriet Buchan performed well in the Hertfordshire Girls’ Autumn Meeting, which ran alongside the under-16 boys’ event.

They both finished with 36 stableford points in the handicap section to finish just one shot behind winner Lily Wrangle from the home club.
