Bishop’s Stortford confident as they bid for first win at Sale FC in National League 1

Marcus Cattell feels Bishop’s Stortford are brimming with confidence as they look to create a piece of club history at Sale FC in National League 1 on Saturday (December 9).

His team have lost on all three occasions they have visited Heywood Road - matches in 2019-20 and 2020-21 were cancelled due to the pandemic - with their most recent trip ending in a 31-7 defeat.

But Stortford head coach Cattell saw his side show character to beat Darlington Mowden Park 13-6 in freezing and foggy conditions at Silver Leys at the weekend and claiming a first win at their third-from-bottom hosts could propel them into the top half of the table.

“The league table is not a fair reflection of Sale as a team,” said Cattell, whose eighth-placed side are looking to make it three wins on the spin.

“They’ve had some big home wins this season and it will be a big challenge. We’ll have to be at our very best.

“We’ve won three of our last four so there’s a lot of confidence in the group and I feel we’re progressing nicely.

“I think we’re really developing different parts of our game and winning games in different ways.”

Winger Josh Stannard is ruled out with a bicep problem, but Australian No 8 Will Rogers is fit enough to start after injuring a shoulder in the warm-up last weekend.

Stortford: Powell, Morris, Ayrton (capt), Pope, Gilham, Riddington, Lloyd; Hill Rayment, Peck, Ball, Wardell, Langworthy, Jones, Rogers. Replacements: Jackson, Warren, Bridges, Kiff, Bolton.
