Bishop's Stortford FC working with increased playing budget as they prepare for scheduled start of new Isthmian League season on September 19

Bishop's Stortford hope to ramp up preparations soon for the new Isthmian League, Premier Division campaign, which is scheduled for a September 19 start.

Manager and owner Steve Smith has run the rule over his squad in a couple of Saturday contact-free training sessions since lockdown restrictions eased.

The Blues boss expects to announce their pre-season friendlies soon and is also looking to add a couple more new signings to the seven – Callum Ibe, Tom Richardson, Jack Giddens, Frankie Merrifield, Ben Marlow, Sam Mvemba and Ben Smith – he has already recruited.

"We're quite lucky that we've got some good sponsors so financially we'll be better off than we were last year, believe it or not, and we've increased the playing budget," said Smith. "It's all very exciting.

"We've got a provisional date of September 19 [for the league to start] now, which is good. We just want to get up and running now, like everyone does."

Tuesday September 22 has also been pencilled in for the start of Stortford's 2020-21 FA Cup adventure in the first qualifying round.
