Callum Ilott and Hertz Team JOTA preparing for Le Mans in FIA World Endurance Championship
Callum Ilott is hoping to secure valuable FIA World Endurance Championship points when he takes on the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours this weekend (June 15-16).
The former Bishop’s Stortford College student, who is competing in the classic race for the second time, has helped his Hertz Team JOTA squad climb to second in the overall standings after three rounds.
Le Mans marks the halfway point of the championship and Ilott, whose family live in the Hadhams, is keen to boost their title chances alongside team-mates Will Stevens and Norman Nato in the #12 Porsche 963 hypercar.
“We definitely have the pace to get a podium and potentially a win, but it’s such a long race in which absolutely anything can happen,” said Ilott, who finished third in the GTE Am class and 27th overall in his only previous Le Mans appearance in 2021.
“The bigger picture is the championship. Le Mans is the fourth race in the eight-race WEC season and we’re already doing a great job lying second in the championship, so it’s important for us to score well.”
Ilott goes into the race having finished 11th at the recent Indy500 where he competed for Arrow McLaren.
He overcame a number of setbacks, including being hit from behind in the pits, before getting close to a top-10 finish.
