Stansted beat Takeley and Sawbridgeworth Town defeat Romford in Emirates FA Cup, extra preliminary round

Stansted recovered from an early setback to defeat derby rivals Takeley 3-2 in the Emirates FA Cup, extra preliminary round last night (September 1).

It was the visitors who took a fifth-minute lead at Hargrave Park when Billy Coyne headed into his own net.

The home team equalised against their fellow Essex Senior League, Premier Division side with 26 minutes on the clock as Jack Mitchell converted from the penalty spot.

Mitchell could have put the Airportmen ahead 10 minutes after the break from his second penalty of the game after Ryan Ramsay went down, but his effort was saved by Mike Corderoy.

Stansted did then go in front just past the hour mark and it was Mitchell who scored the goal, finishing well following a scramble in the area.

It was 3-1 to the home team a minute from the end of normal time when Ash Siddik rounded off some good work by Ramsay.

Takeley were awarded a spot kick in the fifth minute of added time and Samson Adelaja stepped up to convert, but it was too late for them and Stansted will now entertain Basildon United in the preliminary round on September 12.

Sawbridgeworth Town also progressed to the next stage thanks to a decent 2-1 home success against Isthmian League, North Division side Romford.

Connor Clark and Keiron Amos were on target for the Robins, who will next host either Baldock Town or St Margaretsbury.

The home side took the lead after just three minutes when Clark's free kick from just outside the area was deflected into the net and, although there were further chances at both ends, it was the only goal of the first period.

It was all square midway through the second half when Maleki Toussant fired home through a crowd of players for Romford.

However, Amos had the last word as he won it for the Robins in the 89th minute when he headed in Rowan Dorling's free kick at the far post.
