Bishop's Stortford College students Alex James and Tom Howell called up by Wales hockey and The Lambs rugby
Two Bishop's Stortford College pupils are celebrating call-ups to prestigious squads in their chosen sports.
Hockey player Alex James has been selected for the Wales Under-16 National Age Group (NAGS) while Sixth Form student Tom Howell will be going on rugby side The Lambs' tour of South Africa.
James was a Hertfordshire county tennis player until hockey became his main passion and he joined Bishop's Stortford Hockey Club at the age of 11.
He moved to St Albans last year and was soon put in their National League squad, while his NAGS training will now involve sessions at the Wales Satellite Centre in Woking and in Cardiff.
Howell will be joining up with his Lambs team-mates when they visit Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Hermanus and Aquila in the spring.
The Lambs were founded in 2006 to create openings for boys to showcase their rugby skills at a representative level when they have been unable to do so due to other commitments or lack of selection opportunities.
The tour will include intense training sessions with some of the best South African coaches as well as matches against the 2019 World Cup-winning nation's rising stars.
