Shotokan Karate Ryu members Aiden Moldehnke and Ben Miller successful at black belt grading

Junior martial artists Aiden Moldehnke and Ben Miller were successful when Shotokan Karate Ryu held a black belt grading.

Moldehnke, 14, and 11-year-old Miller successfully achieved second dan (nidan) and first dan (shodan) respectively following an intensive examination.

They were put through their paces by Senseis Michael Ring, Donna Ring, Stuart Trow and John Neil Park, with the grading panel members having more than 100 years of combined karate experience between them.

Both candidates were thoroughly tested on their mastery of kihon (basic techniques), kata (formal exercises) and kumite (sparring). The grading demanded not only physical prowess but also a deep understanding of terminology and principles.

“Both Aiden and Ben demonstrated exceptional skill and spirit during their grading,” said Sensei Michael Ring. Their performance exemplifies the dedication required to advance in traditional karate-do.

“They should be proud of their achievements, as we are proud to have them represent our dojo.”

Shotokan Karate Ryu holds classes in Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted. See www.skr.org.uk to find out more.
