Bishop's Stortford Golf Club members and Leventhorpe School students George Wright and Max Hopkins in top five at South East England Schools Golf Championship

George Wright and Max Hopkins advanced to the national finals after claiming top five places at the South East England Schools Golf Championship.

Continuous rain did not deter the Bishop's Stortford Golf Club teenagers, who both attend Leventhorpe School in Sawbridgeworth, as they produced some exemplary golf at Leighton Buzzard.

Wright birdied the first and fifth holes and then parred every hole for a bogey-free round of 69 to finish second, just one shot behind Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School's Armav Arkanath.

Hopkins, who recently tied for fourth in the Lagonda Trophy at Gog Magog Golf Club near Cambridge, carded three birdies before a double bogey on the par-three 14th resulted in a score of 70 and fourth place.

The pair will now take part in the national finals at Belton Park Golf Club in Lincolnshire on Monday June 28.

Herts and Essex High School student Connie Packer was the fourth-placed girl with a six-over-par 79. With only the top three progressing, she is currently a reserve for the national stage.
