Cattell and Coleman set for first National League 1 game as Bishop's Stortford joint head coaches at Tonbridge Juddians

Marcus Cattell said it will be a proud moment when he and Tom Coleman take charge of their first competitive Bishop's Stortford match at Tonbridge Juddians on Saturday.

The joint head coaches were announced as the replacements for director of rugby Andy Long in May 2020, but have had to wait 16 months for their first National League 1 contest due to the pandemic.

And Stortford, whose last league game was a 31-24 success at Rotherham on March 7, 2020, will be looking to make a good start against the promoted Kent side.

"It seems like a long time ago now, Rotherham away," said Cattell. "It's not been easy these last 18 months, but we're just looking forward to getting out there and seeing the boys in action.

"It's a proud moment for us both having played for the club. All the hard work's been for Saturday and hopefully we can get the result we want."

Stortford go into the game at The Slade on the back of a 40-19 win in their final friendly against Hertford at Silver Leys last Thursday (August 26).

The coaches will have a strong squad to select their starting XV from, but James Apperley and Declan Caulfield are set to miss out through injury.

"Every team will be a bit of an unknown quantity this season, but we know a few of the lads who play at Tonbridge," said Cattell.

"We've always said that if we focus on what we can control and play well then it will put us in a good position to win the game."
