Max Hopkins second in Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship at Quinta do Lago in Portugal

Max Hopkins once again showed he is one of the country's best young players by coming second in the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship in Portugal.

The 16-year-old Bishop's Stortford Golf Club member returned to Quinta do Lago in the Algarve where he won the prestigious title two years ago and shot a three-round total of 221 to tie for runners-up spot with Arron Marshall.

There was nothing Hopkins or the rest of the field could do to prevent Rotherham sensation Ben Schmidt, who became the youngest winner of the Men's Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship earlier this year, claiming victory by 15 shots.

Back in Hertfordshire, Stortford juniors George Durkan and Connie Packer picked up trophies at the county presentation evening.

Durkan was rewarded for recording the best aggregate gross scores for a boy from six county events while Packer won the girls' prize for her net scores.
