Callum Ilott moved up the speed charts before a mechanical failure made for a frustrating end to his latest NTT Indycar Series weekend.

The former Bishop's Stortford College student finished the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio in 23rd place. He is 24th in the overall standings in his debut campaign in America.

In the No 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet, Ilott came 21st in the first practice before improving to 18th in the second on the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course.

The 23-year-old advanced to the second round of knockout qualifying as he achieved a fifth-row starting position of 10th.

Ilott returned on race day for a 30-minute warm up session before the main event and his strong run continued as he finished the session fifth quickest overall.

He maintained 10th throughout the first part of the race before the first caution came out on lap nine and his first pit stop came just a few laps before the second caution of the day on lap 30.

The third caution followed soon after when a car went off the track during the restart. Ilott was running 14th before a mechanical failure forced his retirement on lap 57.

Ilott and the rest of the drivers are now preparing for the Honda Indy Toronto on July 17.

"Even though the day didn't end how we would have liked it to, we still had a solid run with Callum and have a lot to look forward to," said JHR co-owner and team principal Ricardo Juncos.

"Callum, who has never been here at Mid-Ohio, once again proved his strength on track. We will continue to work hard as a team and be ready for Toronto in just a few weeks."
