Bishop's Stortford College and Bishop's Stortford Swimming Club member Mehdi El Mansar wins eight medals at 14th Arab Junior Swimming Championships

Mehdi El Mansar claimed eight medals as he helped Morocco claim an historic victory in his category at the 14th Arab Junior Swimming Championships.

The Bishop's Stortford Swimming Club member struck gold seven times and also picked up a bronze medal as he excelled in the 14-15 age group.

Traditionally the strong swimming nations in the championships are Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria, but El Mansar's exploits ensured the hosts triumphed in his section.

Each competitor could enter four individual races and the Bishop's Stortford College student topped the podium in the 200m IM (2min 14.89sec), 400m IM (4.49.26), 200m backstroke (2.13.69) and 400m freestyle (4.12.87).

He also took three relay gold medals in the 4x100m freestyle, 4x100m IM and 4x200m freestyle, and nabbed bronze in the 4x100m IM.
