Former Reading striker Nahum Melvin-Lambert staying at Bishop’s Stortford as Lanre Balogun returns to Takeley

Nahum Melvin-Lambert has won the battle to be Bishop’s Stortford’s front man for the rest of the season with Lanre Balogun leaving the club.

Both strikers were recruited by manager Steve Castle before Christmas as he looked to bolster his options up top, with the budget meaning only one could be kept in the longer term.

Melvin-Lambert, who scored in December 28’s 2-0 home win over Redditch United, was ruled out of the weekend’s 4-0 victory over Lowestoft Town with a hamstring injury.

But the former Reading youngster has agreed terms at the RDA Stadium while Balogun has returned to old club Takeley in the Essex Senior League, Premier Division.

Sami Moutawafiq has also left the RDA Stadium as he was not guaranteed first-team football and is now plying his trade at Ware, while fellow midfielder Anthony Church has signed dual registration terms with Sittingbourne.

Blues boss Castle was delighted with his team’s display at home to Lowestoft at the weekend as they kept back-to-back clean sheets and moved five points clear of the relegation zone.

They travel to third-placed Halesowen Town this Saturday (February 1) before visiting 13th-placed Alvechurch next Tuesday (February 4).

“Hopefully we can move onwards and upwards going into two very tough away games,” said Castle.

“When that belief grows it can be infectious, so hopefully that can lead to some more positive results.

“[At Halesowen] we want a solid performance with a clean sheet. If we can manage to get ourselves a couple of goals, brilliant. Hopefully we can get everything we want.”
