Takeley and Stansted get through in Isuzu FA Vase second qualifying round




Jack Mitchell netted twice as Takeley triumphed 3-0 at Barking in the second qualifying round of the Isuzu FA Vase on Saturday (September 21).

He opened the scoring after 10 minutes against their Essex Senior League rivals by smashing the ball into the top corner from 30 yards out.

Mitchell doubled the visitors’ advantage before half time by curling the ball home from inside the box having been picked out by Jordan Wescott.

And they sealed the deal after the interval when Charlie Wardle threaded a great ball through to Lanre Balogun and he rounded the goalkeeper to score.

Stansted also progressed thanks to a 2-0 home victory over Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League, First Division South side Burnham Ramblers.

Joshua Darby put the Airport Army ahead just before the hour mark and Dan McCullock wrapped up the win six minutes from time.

There was disappointment for Sawbridgeworth Town as they lost 4-1 at Brantham Athletic.

James Lee bagged a brace and Jack Marshall and Max Sherlock also notched for the Thurlow Nunn Premier outfit, with Austen Garrod getting a consolation for the Robins.

Takeley will visit Woodbridge Town, of the Thurlow Nunn Premier, in the first round proper while Stansted will entertain Southern Counties East League, First Division side Clapton Community. The ties are scheduled for Saturday October 19.

There was a big 6-0 win for Takeley at Halstead Town in the Essex Senior League, Premier Division last Tuesday (September 17).

Mitchell and Balogun were joined on the score sheet by Jaden Marzell, Coby Miles, Connor Clarke and Harrison Tweddell.

Takeley, who have agreed a new three-year ground and kit sponsorship deal with Full Vision Ltd, are fifth in the table with 15 points from eight games.

Sawbo went down 2-1 at home to Great Wakering Rovers that evening. Kieran David scored for the hosts, who are 17th with four points from nine outings.
