Big wins for Takeley and Sawbridgeworth Town in Essex Senior League, Premier Division

Takeley returned to winning ways in the Essex Senior League, Premier Division with a 3-1 success at Ilford on Saturday (March 8).

The promotion-chasing visitors, who had lost two games in a row, led at the break through Lanre Balogun before George Pullen doubled their advantage just before the hour.

Jack Mitchell got their third goal in the 74th minute, with Greg Akpele getting a consolation for the hosts three minutes from time.

Fourth-placed Takeley are six points behind new leaders Woodford Town with two games in hand, but second-placed Stanway Rovers are five points better off than Takeley having played the same number of matches.

Sawbridgeworth Town claimed a big three points in their relegation battle by beating Frenford 1-0 at home.

Luke Ellis got the only goal of the game with 16 minutes gone to move them eight points clear of the bottom two.

Stansted, who are one place below Sawbo, drew 1-1 at home to 17th-placed Hullbridge Sports.

Archie West gave the Airport Army an eighth-minute lead, but Tom Ranger levelled for the visitors 12 minutes from the end.

Second-from-bottom Stansted, who have three games in hand on Sawbo, were also at home last Tuesday (March 4) when Nathan Wilson’s 75th-minute goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of White Ensign.
