Bishop’s Stortford Running Club members take on Oakley 20, Hillingdon 20, Brentwood Half, Fleet Half and Coniston 14
Jane Malone knocked more than 10 minutes off her personal best when Bishop’s Stortford Running Club members took on the Oakley 20.
The race, organised by Bedford Harriers, took place on an undulating course in sunny conditions.
And Malone’s marathon training went up a gear as she crossed the line in 3hr 57min 21sec.
Sophie Barc led the way for BSRC in her first 20-mile race as she finished in 2:45.39. Mike Grant snuck under three hours to finish in 2:59.41, followed by Shane Tomlinson (3:11.08), Kevin Gillespie (3:14.16) and Selina Walkley in 3:20.11.
Vicky Simpson opted for the even hillier Hillingdon 20, with the challenging course consisting of four five-mile laps. She clocked 2:30.02 to finish first in her F50 age group.
Rob Thorpe and Mark Palmer were in action at the Brentwood Half. The former finished in 1:19.48 to secure a PB by over a minute, as well as first place in his MV50 age category, while the latter, on his debut outing here, finished in 1:46.41.
Marie Hockley represented team green and gold at the Fleet Half Marathon in Hampshire and registered a time of 1:52.19.
In much tougher weather conditions, Ian and Eleanor Rodgers took part in the Coniston 14 race in the Lake District, which involved a scenic and undulating circuit of Coniston Water, the third largest by volume of the national park’s lakes.
The weather changed every 10 minutes, going from windy to showers to sunny and back again, ending with a gale force wind and sideways rain. The couple battled on with Ian finishing in 2:20.53 and Eleanor in 2:45.07.
