Bishop’s Stortford get chance for quick revenge against Bury St Edmunds

Joint head coach Marcus Cattell is looking for a big improvement when Bishop’s Stortford get the chance for quick revenge against Bury St Edmunds on Saturday (3pm).

An under-strength Stortford, missing numerous players due to injuries, holidays and forward Declan Caulfield’s wedding, lost their first pre-season friendly 49-17 in Suffolk.

The fixture had to be arranged at short notice as they had been due to entertain Westcliff, who were forced to cancel due to unexpected unavailability issues. Bury now visit for a rematch.

“It was our first game of rugby with normal rules since March 2020, so there were some positives to take in terms of getting minutes under the belt and scrummaging again,” said Cattell, who was at Caulfield’s wedding but has studied the recording of the match.

“There were some good individual performances, but collectively it wasn’t a good performance and we were second best in some areas.

“We challenge ourselves to improve and we’ve got a chance to right the wrongs.”
