Teenager Will Nutt takes 6-13 as Bishop’s Stortford II beat Potters Bar counterparts in Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League

Teenager Will Nutt took an excellent 6-13 to help Bishop’s Stortford II triumph by seven wickets at home to their Potters Bar counterparts on Saturday (May 25).

The 18-year-old bowler produced the figures off seven overs as the visitors were removed for just 72 in the Saracens Hertfordshire League, Division 2B contest.

They had only reached 32-2 by the 20th over, with both wickets being taken by Richie Heywood.

Nutt, who was assisted by Harry Pigram (1-17), then ensured the visitors’ innings came to an abrupt end after 36 overs.

Haitel Patel (19) and Jonathan Gaffney (23) got Stortford off to a good start in reply before captain Will Heywood (18no) guided them to 73-3 in the 21st over.

Things were reversed in the Premier Division, however, as the first team went down by seven wickets when they travelled to take on Potters Bar’s main side.

Batting first on a damp wicket, Stortford fell to 25-3 before Joe Hawkins and Tom Howes produced a partnership worth 26.

Hawkins became the first of Middlesex player Tilan Walallawita’s five victims when he was stumped for 21 and Howes was then caught for the same score and the hosts were ultimately removed for 82 in the 32nd over.

The hosts had reached 55-2 when young Will Dommett produced Stortford’s highlight of the day, holding a spectacular one-handed catch on the boundary to dismiss their former player Reece Hussain.

But it did not prevent Potters Bar reaching 83-3 in the 19th over. Ben Twohig took 2-43 and Simon Lindop got 1-10.

A brilliant 126-run partnership between Joe De Souza and Will Lambert helped the third team beat visiting Stansted Hall & Elsenham in Tees Herts & Essex Border League, Premier Division.

Batting first, the hosts were in trouble on 98-8 as Zafir Nazir (3-38) and Mohsin Zamir (3-24) caused real damage.

But De Souza hit 63 and Lambert struck 48 to ensure Stortford posted a respectable 224 all out.

De Souza followed up his batting exploits by taking 5-49 with the ball as the away side, for whom Jacob Talbot (48) top-scored, were dismissed for 174.

In Division One, the fourth team succumbed by eight wickets at Hatfield Heath.

A below-par batting performance resulted in the visitors being skittled out for 94. Ben Warren made 31 while Saji George took 3-13.

Hatfield Heath made short work of reaching their target as opener Raji George carried his bat for 59 to steer them to 100-2 in the 21st over.
