Bishop's Stortford have welcomed a number of players back into full training ahead of hosting Old Albanian in their opening pre-season friendly at Silver Leys this Saturday (3pm).

Will Roberts (back), who did not feature at all in National League 1 last term, Jon George (elbow) and Charlie Kingham (knee) have all been put through their paces.

Louis Castiglione (foot) could return within a couple of weeks and Tom McCrone is on schedule to be back in October following a shoulder operation, but Jimmy Rea needs a scan to assess an ankle problem.

Stortford also face Ealing Trailfinders and Hertford in pre-season as they prepare for their opening league game at Plymouth Albion on Saturday, September 7.

This weekend's opponents OAs finished 10th in National League 2S last season having been relegated from National League 1 in 2018.

"Touch wood we're looking pretty strong with good numbers," said Stortford director of rugby Andy Long.

"You can't replicate putting your skills under immense pressure in training and OAs will be a really good test for us. They've got new players and new coaches, so they'll be looking to battle hard against us.

"League points aren't up for grabs and for us it's about looking at combinations, getting the guys their first proper hit out and testing out some of our set-piece stuff.

"The main thing is to get minutes under the guys' belts and then, after the game, reflect on where we are."
