Dom Chatfield is targeting title bids and promotion pushes across the club at Bishop’s Stortford this season, which gets under way at the weekend.

The first team begin their 2019 campaign with a Readers County T20 event at Cricketfield Lane this Saturday. They take on Letchworth after Radlett have faced Shenley, with the winners meeting for the chance to progress to the finals day.

It was a tough 2018 for the first team as they preserved their Saracens Herts League, Premier Division status with a last-day win over Harpenden.

“Last year was disappointing for the club across most teams, but optimism is much higher this year,” said first-team captain Chatfield.

“All teams will be stronger with several players returning. The first XI will also be strengthened by new experienced players Sam Davis, from Hoddesdon, and Jonathan Gaffney, from Woodford Wells.

“Our aim is for the first XI to challenge for a top-four play-off place and other teams to push for promotion in their leagues.”

This Saturday also sees the thirds visit North Weald and the fourths host Harlow V in the Tees Herts & Essex League, Division Two and Five respectively.

Meanwhile, the women’s team lost by nine wickets and won by six wickets at Finchley in a Southern League Premier T20 double header.

Nikki Little hit an unbeaten 26 in the loss, while Kelly Castle (2 for 20 with the ball and 39 with the bat) starred in the victory.
