Jack Scantlebury and Will Roberts could be back for Bishop’s Stortford when they go in search of a win at fourth-placed Chinnor on Saturday (Dec 11).

Stortford, who are struggling with injuries, lost 31-20 at home to Caldy at the weekend and are second from bottom in National League 1 with only one victory in their last eight outings. They have 20 points, three more than Tonbridge Juddians and three fewer than Leeds Tykes and Plymouth Albion.

But the returns of centre Scantlebury and prop Roberts would be a welcome boost as they await comebacks from the likes of captain Sam Winter and Nick Hankin after Christmas.

Stortford trailed 21-3 midway through the first half against Caldy, but did get back into the contest with two tries from Alex Rayment and one from Chris Smith.

“We definitely showed a greater desire to win the game at the weekend, which was a positive, but we’re making individual errors as well as collective errors that are costing us,” said joint head coach Tom Coleman.

“If we don’t get our set piece right then we’ll struggle to be involved in a game, so that’s something we need to address as quickly as we can.

“We’re trying to pick out positives, but when you’re losing games that becomes harder and harder. For us, it’s about having a good week’s training, sticking together and going out on Saturday and giving a good account of ourselves.

“If we go there and perform how I know we can then we can win the game. Talk is cheap and we’ve got to get out there and perform.”
