Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club under-18 United win Premier Division cup final

By Michael Vaughton

Ethan Barton scored a perfect hat-trick as Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club under-18 United claimed the derby bragging rights against Real Stortford Stars in the Mid-Herts Rural Minors League Premier Division Cup final.

He netted with his right foot, left foot and head as United triumphed 5-3 in a brilliant contest, which showcased the talent in the town, to lift the trophy.

It was Stars' only MHRML defeat of the season as they had done a league and league cup double.

United took a fifth-minute lead when Lewis Wicker drilled in, but Stars responded well and Tolu Osiyemi teed up Matt Kemp to equalise before Sam Law's free kick put them ahead.

Barton powered in a header from Jack Walker's cross to restore parity before half time, and Wicker added his second after the break as United went 3-2 up.

Barton then went on a mesmerising run and slotted in a fine individual goal to extend their advantage, but Stars did not give up and pulled one back through Osiyemi.

However, Barton had the final word as he sent a thunderous shot past the goalkeeper at the death from Taylor Griffiths' pass.

Under-13 Rovers picked up another piece of silverware for BSCFC by beating Hitchin 2-0 in the Division Six Cup final.

It was an end-to-end affair, but a goal apiece for Owen McFadden and Jake Roberts earned Rovers the glory.

Also crucial to the success was an outstanding defensive display, which included a brilliant performance by goalkeeper Jack Eley.

A great weekend for the club was capped by under-nine Town lifting the Indigo Division Cup thanks to an 8-2 victory over Chars Youth.

They produced their best performance of the season - they were unbeaten in their league campaign with only a solitary draw - at The Hive in Barnet as they recovered from falling behind.
