Pippa Bull struck twice as unbeaten Bishop's Stortford II registered a comprehensive 4-0 home win over Hertford in East Women's Hockey League, Division 2SW

Pippa Bull struck twice as unbeaten Bishop's Stortford II registered a comprehensive 4-0 home win over Hertford in East Women's League, Division 2SW.

The hosts soon went through the gears against aggressive opponents and took the lead thanks to Bull firing in from open play.

And they doubled their advantage just before half time when Lottie Lynch rounded off a great move.

Stortford remained disciplined in their shape and kept fouls to a minimum before extending their lead through Nicky Bareham.

Solid defending, most notably by player-of-the-match Caitlin Wotton, kept Hertford at bay from their limited attacks.

Bull made absolutely certain of the points with her second goal of the game from a nice short-corner routine.

The firsts are also undefeated in the Premier Division but they did let a three-goal half-time lead slip as they drew 3-3 at Broxbourne.

Stortford dominated from the off and took a 15th-minute lead when Abbie Barrett, who was back after a period of self-isolating, beat two defenders and slotted home from the top of the D.

They were two goals to the good eight minutes later when top scorer and player-of-the-match Hattie Sharman drilled the ball in from a short corner.

Emelia Mitchell saw her penalty flick saved following a cynical foul by the goalkeeper on Sally Powell, but Sharman did notch the visitors' third before the break.

Stortford continued to dominate after the interval and missed some chances before being bemused by an umpiring decision which led to Broxbourne pulling a goal back on the counter-attack.

The away side still created chances, despite the hosts gaining confidence, and Lou Davies was denied by the shot-stopper.

But Broxbourne made it all square with a couple of goals from short corners in the space of four minutes and both sides failed to take opportunities to win the contest.

Zoe Barford scored and goalkeeper Ibby Welldon was player of the match when the thirds lost 4-1 to Bedford IV in Division 4SW while there were chances for both sides as the fourths drew 0-0 with St Albans V.

The fifths succumbed 3-1 to Bedford VI in 6SW but the Acolytes thrashed Berkhamsted III 5-0 in 7SW.

Vicky Cox was on target as the sevenths had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Leighton Buzzard IV in 8SW despite having the majority of the possession and territory.

Meanwhile, the newly-formed eighth team have their first fixture this weekend as the ladies' section, which has over 100 players training each week, continues to go from strength to strength.

The men's seconds are top of East Men's League, Division 4SW with a 100% record after man-of-the-match Freddy Cooke hit a hat-trick in their 6-0 success at Hertford II.

They were 2-0 up at half time after teenage front man Jarad Bassingthwaighte produced a cute finish and Cooke found the far corner with an accurate effort.

Stortford pulled further clear straight after the restart as Cooke fired in his second before Vern Brown notched his first brace of the campaign.

Cooke completed his hat-trick with a successful penalty stroke following a foul by the goalkeeper on Bassingthwaighte.

The firsts, who are also at the summit in Division One, were big 6-0 winners against Bourne Deeping.
