Arsenal under-21s to visit Bishop’s Stortford for pre-season friendly while Jack Thomas leaves the Southern League club

Jack Thomas has brought an end to an “incredible” seven years at Bishop’s Stortford by announcing he is leaving the club.

The popular midfielder, who made his first-team debut at the age of 18, racked up 237 appearances and netted four goals for the Blues.

He said it was a difficult decision to make, but is looking forward to a new challenge away from the RDA Stadium.

“After an incredible seven years and over 230 appearances I’ve made the very tough decision to leave Bishop’s Stortford FC,” Thomas said on X. “It has been a pleasure to play for this great club and what a journey it’s been.

“I made my first-team debut at 18 years old and have always worn the shirt with huge pride since that moment.

“Thank you to all of the players, the staff and, last but not least, the fans and volunteers who have supported the club through thick and thin over the years. I will always be grateful for the way you’ve treated me.

“Best of luck for the upcoming season and beyond. Allez les Blues.”

All told, except for a couple of short periods away, Thomas was with the club for almost a decade taking into account his seasons in Stortford’s academy setup when he played in the National Conference Alliance U19 League.

Meanwhile, the Blues have confirmed five pre-season friendlies ahead of their 2024-25 Pitching In Southern League, Premier Central campaign.

They will entertain Hornchurch on Saturday July 6 (3pm) before visiting Canvey Island on Saturday July 13 (1pm).

Welling United will come to the RDA Stadium on Tuesday July 23 (7.45pm) before the Blues travel to Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday July 27 (3pm).

And Premier League runners-up Arsenal will send an under-21 side to Stortford on Wednesday July 31.
