Rebecca Earl says there is more to come from her after she made a solid start to the American college season with an eighth-place finish.

The Bishop's Stortford Golf Club member ended on nine over par in the Amelia Island Collegiate competition.

She and her Wofford College colleagues made an 800-mile round trip to Fernandina Beach in Florida for the event, hosted by Jacksonville University, and their team came fourth.

Earl, 20, who is into her third year of studies in South Carolina, began with a level-par round of 72 before shooting 79 and 74 in a tough competition in which nobody finished under par.

The 2019 Indies young sports personality of the year said she was fairly pleased with her performance but felt there were improvements to come, particularly with her putting, after she struggled to find the correct pace at times on some very wet greens.

Meanwhile, fellow BSGC member Jon Hopkins tied for 49th when he competed in the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida.
