Former colts and minis help Bishop's Stortford Rugby Club side win the shield at Under-23 Returning Students Festival

A team of former minis and colts reunited to help Bishop's Stortford win the shield competition at the 11th annual Under-23 Returning Students Festival.

The sevens event was hosted by Old Albanian and two Stortford sides were in action alongside the hosts and teams from Tring, Hertford, Fullerians, Tabard, Camelot, Woodford, Datchworth, Cheshunt and Royston.

The Stortford squads improved as the tournament went on and, despite failing to record a win in the group stages, one of them managed to qualify for the shield semi-finals, where they overwhelmed Camelot six tries to one.

In horrendous conditions not suited to fast flowing sevens rugby, the Stortford boys proved too strong for their opponents Cheshunt.

They triumphed by four tries to one as Sam Tatchell went over the whitewash twice and there were also scores for Adam Nnochiri and Josh Jones.

All of the players enjoyed being reunited with their minis and colts team-mates and are looking forward to defending the trophy next year.
