Ricardo Dinanga brace helps AFC Telford United inflict 4-1 defeat on Bishop’s Stortford in Southern League Premier Central
Isa Rotimi’s first goal for Bishop’s Stortford was a mere consolation as they went down 4-1 at AFC Telford United in Pitching In Southern League, Premier Central on Saturday (November 2).
The Blues have now suffered six straight defeats in all competitions and remain fourth from bottom inside the relegation zone
Stortford are at home this Saturday (November 9) when mid-table Banbury United come to the RDA Stadium.
The sixth-placed Bucks, who are only outside the play-off places on goal difference, went ahead from the first shot of the match as Ellis Brown found the bottom corner with a powerful strike.
Blues goalkeeper Charlie Binns saved with his feet to deny Brown a second moments later before, at the other end, Sami Moutawafiq volleyed wide of the target from Cole Dasilva’s cross.
Rotimi was unlucky not to equalise when he attempted to convert Moutawafiq’s low cross, but he did restore parity on the half hour by calmly netting from Ryan Charles’ cut back.
However, the hosts restored their lead just five minutes later when they pressed high to win the ball back and Matthew Stenson beat Binns.
After the break, Moutawafiq was fouled on the edge of the box and Dasilva’s free kick was parried over the bar by Bucks shot-stopper Brandon Hall.
The Bucks had a goal ruled out for offside before Fabio Virciglio shot high and wide from long range for the visitors.
The hosts pulled two goals clear in the 70th minute when Ricardo Dinanga controlled a right-wing cross on his chest and found the corner with an acrobatic volley.
Brad Russell shot over the bar and substitute Charlie Castle was denied by a superb fingertip save from Hall as Steve Castle’s men attempted to get back into the contest.
But it was the home team who wrapped up the points in added time as Dinanga found himself free at the back post to complete his brace in front of a crowd of 1,004 at the SEAH Stadium.
